POST BEGUN FRIDAY 30 OCT 2026 0837HRS GMT

Honestly never ever thought I would ever be one of those 'elderly fall risk' women. I spent my life active in sport (yeah, including 'extreme sport' until my mid-fifties when I realised my reflexes weren't what they should be). I danced, I ate properly, I stayed reasonably active. My gene pool is loaded to the gills with big-bone people and I reckoned I was 'doing it right' on the ageing well front.

However. In 2015 I tripped over a scatter rug in the front hall. Broke a few bones, dislocated shoulder and biceps. I stopped wearing backless house slippers and got a new tri-focal specs prescription. Problem solved, I thought.

Then I fell in the bathroom in early August 2026. Spent a full week in an NHS hospital (omfg never again God willing!). 12 weeks on I am a bit more mobile on the Z-frame and am moving (sooo slowly) to crutches. Physio says three to four months more before I can graduate to a walking stick, 12 months before I'll be walking unaided, if ever. Lately my bookmarks bar is loaded with links to mobility scooter sites.

sigh

BONUS (not), a few days ago I received a letter inviting me to book a DEXA scan for osteoporosis owing to my being deemed 'a fall risk'. They even sent along a helpful booklet titled 'FALL RISK'.

yippee

Regretfully I've had to update my blog to comment moderation to prevent spamming. LOL, if only the fools knew my blog is seen by a very small and select group-it might help them understand the waste of time it is to spam my blog! Oh well, it's not as though spammers are very bright, after all.
